Career-linked Education Council (“Council”), the organisation that operates (“website”), has adopted the following privacy policy for the information collected at this website. As the website evolves, we may update this privacy policy to reflect changes in the manner in which we deal with personal information, whether to comply with then-applicable regulations and self-regulatory standards or otherwise. The privacy policy posted here will always be current. We encourage you to review this statement regularly.

Our Methodology & Approach

  • Except as set forth below, personally identifiable data you enter on the website is not made available or distributed to third parties, except with your express consent or at your express direction. In particular, the website and the Council will not give, sell or provide access to your personal information to any company, individual or organisation for its use in marketing or commercial solicitation or any other purpose, except with your express consent, at your direction, as is necessary for the operation of this site, or under one of the exceptions listed below.

Exceptions to the privacy policy

  • There are limited exceptions to the website privacy policy. When required by law to comply with any valid legal process such as a search warrant, regulation or court order, the Council will supply such information contained in the website account as the Council reasonably determines, based on the advice of counsel, it is legally required to supply. Also, the Council may release specific information relevant to special cases, such as a physical threat to you or others or an attempted breach of security on the website site.

The personal identifying information we collect

The website collects personally identifying information from you including, but not limited to, your name, date of birth, address, e-mail address, telephone number, grade level, parent’s contact information, such additional information as you choose to include in your user profile or are required to provide by the college and information associated with activities you have undertaken on the website.

Reasons we collect your personal identifying information:

the website collects personal information from you in the following circumstances: when your complete forms on this website (including surveys, job search, competition entry forms, registration forms, and other forms);

when you create, modify, or use any accounts or registered user facilities available through this website; To enable you to submit conveniently and efficiently information that is likely to be needed when your complete college admission, job and other applications and forms made available through the website; and to enable the Council to respond to your questions or contact you, when necessary, in connection with the functioning of the website. When the effective functioning of the website module does not require personal information, none is collected, and any such module can be accessed without opening an account or providing any personal data.

When you log on to the website, certain information may be passively collected (that is, gathered without your active participation) using various technologies and means, such as Internet Protocol addresses, cookies, Internet tags, and navigational data collection. Information collected may include server addresses, top-level domain names, dates and times of visits to the website, pages accessed and documents downloaded, previous websites visited and the type of browser used. Although your browser transmits the IP address of your computer, the website does not associate this IP address with any personally identifiable information regarding you. the website does not collect any personally identifiable information other than what users submit and their browsers transmit.

We may also use personal information collected by us to: respond to any questions or correspondence from you; to operate and improve this website and any related services; carry out internal research and development; provide you with information about a service that you are using (including critical updates and announcements); eliminate the need for you to repeatedly enter the same information; customise this website to suit your particular preferences and interests; where you create a message using this website (to send that message to us, or any other recipient specified by you), send that message; analyse website usage, trends and statistics; with your permission, supply you with further information concerning products and services that we consider to be of interest to you; or carry out any other use that is authorised by you or is notified to you at the time of collection. We will not disclose your personal information except under this Privacy Policy. We may use or disclose your personal information if you have authorised us to do so, or in any of the following circumstances:

we have given you notification of the intended use or disclosure and you have not objected to that use or disclosure;

we believe that the use or disclosure is reasonably necessary to protect the rights or property of the Council (including, without limitation, employees or Advisors of the Council), to enforce any legal rights we may have, or is reasonably necessary to protect the rights, property and safety of you, us, or others; we believe that the use or disclosure is reasonably necessary to assist a law enforcement agency or an agency responsible for national security in the performance of their functions; we are required or permitted by law to disclose the information.

    The personal identifying information we collect

  • Summary data representing a compilation of aggregate data representing the website users may be collected by the Council and provided to various entities including employers and educational institutions represented on the website. NO PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION IS MADE AVAILABLE AS PART OF THESE SUMMARY REPORTS. Some examples of summary data are the number of monthly visitors to the site, the number of admission applications submitted over the website, and the website functions utilised by students in specified age or grade ranges.
  • With whom personal identifying information may be shared
  • Any time you request that we perform a task that involves a transfer of data, the data related to the performance of that task will be made available to a recipient you designate or to a service provider assisting us in completing that task. For example:
  • If you apply for admission to the Council client college or other educational institution, the personal data required to complete that application will be provided on your behalf to the admissions office of the institution to which you are applying.
  • If you request that a college or other educational institution, send you material, your contact information will be provided to that institution.

Security measures to prevent misuse of information entrusted to the website

The website causes the data you input to be encrypted when in a route between your browser and the website server and when in a route between the website server and some other browser or server. This practice helps prevent unauthorised third parties from intercepting and gaining access to your private data during transmission over the Internet. The website uses 128-bit, Secure Socket Layer encryption supported by browsers.

Each Council employee who has access to the data residing on the website server has agreed in writing to respect the privacy of all such personal data.

The website use cookies to remember you and personalise your web-viewing experience by keeping track of your session when logged on to the website. The Council, the colleges, the associations of colleges and the agencies represented on the website do not have control over and do not endorse such external sites and resources. The Council, the colleges, the associations of colleges and the agencies represented on the website shall not be liable for any content, advertising, products or other materials on or available from such sites or resources. Also, the Council, the colleges, the associations of colleges and the agencies represented on the website shall not be responsible or liable, directly or indirectly, for any damage or loss caused or alleged to be caused by or in connection with the use of or reliance on any such content, advertising, products or materials on or available through any such site or resource.

Modifying and deleting your information You may update, otherwise modify or delete from the data stored on the website any personal information you previously provided. To modify personal information:

  1. log on to the website
  2. access either your user profile or an application containing the information you want to change, and
  3. modify that information using standard word-processing techniques.

To delete personal information that is not a required field to be completed in your profile:

  1. log on to the website
  2. access your user profile, and
  3. delete the information you want to remove from the website using standard word-processing techniques and
  4. save the change.

To delete personal information that is a required field to be completed in your profile, you will need to contact the Council and request that your profile be deleted. Please recognise that if you delete information, it will no longer be available on the website so that, for example, if a college to which you previously applied were to attempt to retrieve that application from the website after you made the deletion the deleted information would no longer be accessible. Similarly, when accessed over the website, information that has been updated or otherwise modified will appear in its then-most current form, rather than in the form in which it may have been submitted at some earlier time.

Amending this privacy policy: The Council may amend this Privacy Policy from time to time. Unless legal obligations require faster implementation if the Council makes any substantial changes to this Privacy Policy concerning the use of your personal information the Council will notify you by posting a message on the website homepage for at least thirty days. Thereafter, the new privacy policy will apply to all data previously submitted or subsequently submitted to the website, unless such use is prohibited by law. If you do not wish to have your information used under a newly posted privacy policy, you should modify or delete the relevant information in the manner described in the preceding section, “Modifying and Deleting Your Information.”
